Op-Ed: The State of the Baby Economy

Dear Paul Snugman,

I'm wondering, as a recent Nobel prize-winner in the under-3-months-old category, what do you think the chances are for the American baby economy? Also, do you have any advice for Omama?
Thanks,
A Loyal Reader

I have high hopes for the baby stimulus package. Ultimately, babies are among the easiest sector of the economy to stimulate. I also hope the milk producer's union (the Momsters) won't choose this moment to have a booby strike, because the baby economy depends on liquidity.

As for your second
question, Loyal Reader, President Omama just put a new diaper on me. Now that's change I can believe in!

If It's Sunday, It's Ask Snug!

As a baby, what do you think about the recent octuplet controversy?
- Angelina Jolie (Nana wrote this one in actually)

(The left photo is Lilly on November 26th, still in the NICU, and not yet 2 weeks old. The right photo is one of the Suleman octuplets. The green arrow is pointing out that they have the same pacifier (a.k.a. soother).)

Excellent question, Angelina. As a baby who spent a month in the NICU, wore protective goggles as she slept under the UV lights, and also gripped her peach-colored pacifier with all her might, I feel a strong kinship with the octuplets.

It tickles me to be finally old enough to give advice to somebody; so listen-up little ones:
1. When you leave the NICU, take as many soothers as you can.
2. Soon, you'll be able to have yummies without the NG tube.
and
3. Hats, hats, hats!

It was a beautiful day today

We also visited everyone at

and practiced giving them
our movie star smile.

Movie Star

Today, Lilly and I went to Yorkville (a very posh neighborhood in Toronto) to pick up her new pink snowsuit at Jacadi Paris and we ran into a film crew shooting "Chloe" (the new film with Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore). We ended up being extras in the movie and were asked to come back on Wednesday to do some more outdoor scenes.

Waiting

Earlier, Lilly was
happily daydreaming
while she was waiting
for her hair and
make up to be done
for her celebrity
photo shoot.

and thank you to Andrea and
Josie for the black denims.)

I heard that Pluto isn't a planet anymore? How many planets are there?
- Neil deGrasse Tyson
(Astrophysicist, Director of Hayden Planetarium at AMNH, and Lilly's cousin)

(Photo: Lilly in her "planets" onesie and Cousin Neil in his "planets" tie.)

This is a great question, Cousin Neil. Yes, it's true -- Pluto is no
longer a planet, so now there are only 8 planets in our solar system. Pluto was demoted to a "dwarf planet." According to the International Astronomical Union, a planet must satisfy the following three criteria:

1. It must be in an orbit around the sun. (Pluto does orbit the sun.)
2. It must be spherical -- in other words, the planet has to be massive enough, have enough gravity, to pull itself into a sphere. (Pluto is, indeed, spherical.)
3. It must be massive enough to knock all other objects out of it's orbit around the sun. (Unfortunately, it turns out that Pluto can't do that.)

Thus, Pluto does NOT satisfy criterion #3. So, now we say that Pluto is a "dwarf planet." Time to change your dioramas, Cousin Neil.

Blowing a fuse

Earlier this morning, somehow, we blew two fuses in our apartment. After they were replaced, we plugged everything back in and ... we blew out the two fuses again. Replacing them for the second time was less of an adventure.
Afterward, Lilly and I had sushi with Katie (thanks for lunch!) and then we went out to get free passes to see "Coraline" this Thursday (advance show - thanks, Lima) .
We also cleaned out our hat drawer and realized that the hat that Ayalah made for Snug now fits! Below are the photos of Lilly on Nov. 30th (still in the NICU with her NG tube) and today.

Busy Day

Today we had brownies and hot chocolate with Ayalah at Pusateri's, sent post cards, got our pictures taken, bought Valentine's day gifts, and rode on the Toronto subway for the first time. Also, Snug received a postcard from Noah! Thanks Noah!

That's Noah in the photos!
Can't wait for our date to the movies this Thursday!

Happy Groundsnug Day

Both, Nova Scotia's Shubnedacadie Sam and Snug, woke up today to the sound of bagpipes and the town crier (in Snug's case, Snug herself was the crier), saw their respective shadows, and went back to sleep. I guess it's 6 more weeks of winter for us here in Canada.

LIVE SUPERBOWL BLOGGING

With her hand on her heart, Lilly listens to Jennifer Hudson sing the national anthem at the Superbowl 43.

Going to the Bookstore

Latham and Lilly on our corner (Church and Wellesley). It was the warmest day since Snug's birth and we were delighted to have a family outing to the bookstore.
