tall short

Lillian has learned the difference between "tall" and "short". She also now speaks in sentences such as, "Daddy Latham is tall, mama is short." In her alcove, she plays the tall-short game by stepping up and down on the shower step.

labyrinth

We love where we live and partly it's because we discover something new and wonderful about Toronto every day. Today, we found a public labyrinth whose design dates back over 1500 years. It was covered with yellow autumn leaves, and after running around and playing in them, Lillian took a well deserved break.

contest

Latham and Lillian only bought one burrito to share between the two of them. They both wanted the last bite and a staring contest seemed like the most fair way to resolve this.

picture day

It was picture day at the daycare, and even though Lillian refused to put on the dress that I picked out for her, she did insist on wearing her hair in pony tails.

Break an egg

Lillian likes to explore the kitchen and sometimes we both enjoy making a mess. For example, today, we threw eggs into a bowl and watched them break.

urban toddler

After our after-dinner playground fun, we treated ourselves to a late-night Starbucks outing.

"...too waud ..."

After dinner, we took Lillian to a new playground down the block from us. It was an intense albeit short walk there, because many loud firetrucks passed us by. Lillian wisely observed, "...too waud..."

Dinner and discussion

Today's dinner was a smoked tempeh and spicy mixed beans burrito. I wrapped it in aluminum foil to make it seem like it was store-bought. We hung out in Lillian's room and discussed various three-letter words.

Enjoying the last warm weekend

Lillian took off her shoes and relaxed on the bench in the park behind our apartment.

One of Lillian's favorite things, after a good long swim, is to be wrapped like a burrito. Yesterday, Latham wrapped both, Lillian and her toy, Rexy, in matching burrito styles.

We try not to do too many stimulating activities right before bed. But Lillian tries to cram in as much fun as she can -- sometimes even drawing and playing the guitar at the same time.

Responsibilities

Being the most responsible toddler has its advantages. Lillian is in charge of feeding the fish at the daycare every Monday and Thursday morning.

Double Walrus

When Lillian eats her pretzels she likes to put two in her mouth and pretend that they are walrus tusks. Her new joke is putting four pretzel sticks in and being a double walrus.

thanksgiving

We were in Cleveland for the Canadian Thanksgiving this past weekend. We saw good friends, ate good food, and had some good giggles.

This is Lillian's new look - when she concentrates really hard, she sticks out her bottom lip.

Visiting Gramma Frida

Next month, Lillian will be turning 2 years old and Gramma Frida will be 87. In this photo, Lillian is eagerly anticipating her visit while riding the elevator to Gramma's apartment.

Watching traffic

When we drive to Cleveland, we usually stop at the Angola rest station and watch cars go by. During this trip there was a lot of good traffic to observe.

Pretzels

Pretzels - Lillian's new favorite food. Last night she and Elmo had a picnic in her shower stall.

Along with spending a lot of time in our unused shower stall, Lillian also pretends to take naps in this box.

Tidying up

Whenever I change the covers on Lillian's bed, I lean her mattress against a chair so that she can pretend that it's a slide. She gleefully climbs up and slides down.

bean bag book store

Lillian's favorite book store in Toronto has bean bags in the kids section for a relaxing read.
