Aija's Very Potter birthday party

Aija had a Harry Potter themed birthday party yesterday. She invited five of her closest friends who all came in costume as Hermione Granger. Each girl did, however, inject a bit of her own personality into the character. Lillian, not surprisingly, went as Vampire Hermione. She also brought her doll Hannah. In the morning we had cut Hannah's hair to make it the same length as Lillian's. And we also had sewn her a black robe to wear as well.

Other Hermiones at the party included: Ice Cream Hermione, Veterinarian Hermione, Tooth Fairy Hermione, and Elsa Hermione.

Scootin' with the big boys

Lillian likes to practice scooting in a skate boarding rink at a university near our apartment.

Piano recital

Lillian and her friends (Addie and Melody) enjoyed chocolate chip cookies after their piano recital.

Lill, Lola, and Melody also posed in front of the wall with pictures of the cast from Frozen.

Sunday morning with Anna

This morning Anna was over to have fun with us.

Anna and Lillian helped me take reference photos for some freelance medical illustration work that I am doing.

And we also made cookies. The bottom cookie is vampire teeth. You are supposed to stick your tongue inside the whole.

Circus party

Lillian went to Inara's birthday party at a circus academy - a school for circus performers. She got her face painted as a pink cheetah. She also got to swing on a trapeze (video to follow in a few days).

Frozen

Thank you, Anna, Nana and Osik, for coming to see Lillian as Grandma Troll in the Branksome Hall production of Frozen (video of some of the performance to follow soon).

Happy Mother's Day

Thank you, everyone, for the wonderful Mother's Day gifts, meals, and wishes.

While waiting for our brunch with Anna and Peter, Lillian found some ants to play with.

For dinner, we went to an Indian buffet and Lillian ate four pieces of tandoori chicken and a huge bowl of chocolate ice cream. To clarify, the ice cream was NOT desert. These two food items were eaten together as a meal.

Not enough fun

Lillian was so happy about the Science Rendezvous that on the way home she climbed a tree ...

... and jumped over some rocks.

Science Rendezvous at U of T

 Lillian and Haddon enjoyed an entire day of science at U of T's Science Rendezvous - an all day event for kids. Every science building is open and ready with children-friendly experiments.

The biggest hits were rope nodes in the physics building ...

... and starch and water kiddy pools outside of the chemistry building.

Green hair day

We made Lillian's costume for the role of Grandmother Troll from Frozen. It includes an earthy tanktop, neon green cape, and newly professionally dyed neon highlights.

What are the kids learning these days?!

In Grade 1 at Branksome, the girls are learning about the life cycles of different animals. They kept duck eggs in an incubator, and observed and recorded their development until the ducklings hatched. Now, they are watching them grow and cleaning their poop.

New Office Furniture

We are super excited about our new purchase.
Lillian got a variable height and tilt art-table and an adjustable chair. She is ready to work on our next book - we are calling it "The Bad Luck Stories."

Great Sunday Outing

This morning we walked to Kensington Market for brunch at a bagel place. And then we continued to a skate-boarding park where Lillian practiced doing the half-pipe on her scooter.

And then she abandoned the scooter and practiced just running and climbing the half-pipe, which turned out to be surprisingly really hard.

We also made time to swing!
