Around the World Bookmark

Lillian is entering another bookmark making contest.
The theme for this one is "Reading Girls Around the World."

Lillian decided that the theme was not broad enough and she is submitting a piece entitled "Reading Girls Around the Universe."
These are two photos of the same bookmark - just flipped so that you can see better what is happening.
There is a girl vampire who lives on Earth and is reading a book about Mars (with Mars as the red ball above her head). She is wearing a red shirt. When flipped, the bookmark depicts a girl Martian, who has a yellow triangular head, three eyes, two noses, and two mouths on her shoulders. She also has no fingers and is wearing a shirt that depicts Earth. Above her head is Earth.

I love this bookmark so much!

After school fun roll

On Wednesday, Latham and I came together to pick up Lillian after her "Frozen" rehearsal. She took us around the school campus and showed us the wood-stump-drums that she constructed in Mud Club.

She also tried to teach us how to roll down a hill.

Today was a fabulous Branksome event called the Mother/Daughter BINGO night.
And while we did not win in BINGO. We had a ton of fun with good friends and super loud music.

Birthday party weekend

Yesterday was Channing's pirate party!
Lill had the perfect outfit for it!

And today was Berlin's wild animal party!
That's a snake around Lill's neck.

Lillian also got to hold an alligator, a parakeet, a turtle, a bearded dragon, and a lemur. She played with a Patagonian cavy (mara), a wallaby, a six foot python, and a baby emu.

The Freckle Chart

We've been meaning to do this for quite some time, and it was great to finally make our freckle chart this weekend. We outlined Lillian, cut out the silhuette, and charted all of her freckles. This chart is double-sided. FYI, there is a total of 17 body freckles (the face was outside the boundary for our observations). While it is impossible to see our markings on this photo, trust me that all freckles have been properly labeled and drawn to scale.

TGIF

There was no school this Friday.
We went to the eye doctor for a regular check-up - Lill's eyes are perfect!
And then we hung out downtown, bought some fabric for Lillian's troll costume, got beads for a necklace, purchased new summer crocs, and enjoyed street hotdogs.

Dinner

Last night, Lillian made her own dinner. I wouldn't have done it any differently. Pure perfection. (BTW that's roe on butter croissant with dill whipped cream cheese and small slices of ham)

Thank you to the grandparents

Lillian is very fortunate to have such amazing grandparents. Her school had grandparents day (no, it's not a Canadian thing) last Friday, and all four of the grandparents came. Thank you so much for making it a super special day for Lillian. We love you all.

Here, Nana is reading Lillian a book about a girl mad scientist.

Rock candy

Lillian and I do science experiments all the time. But not all of them are as delicious as this one. We made rock candy!

First, we boiled sugar and water.
Then we separated the super-saturated solution into three mason jars. We placed popsicle sticks into the jars and waited ... and waited ... and waited (for 5 days).

5 days later they were amazing and delicious!!!
