At the Evergreen Brickworks with friends

We ran into Aija and her family at the Brickworks. This resulted in a fabulous skating outing and a delicious brunch after a failed attempt to hang spoons from our noses.

Today was the opening day of the brand new Athletics and Wellness Center (AWC) at Lillian's school. It has amazing facilities. Lill showed me around.

Science!!

Thank you, Nana and Osik, for Lill's new microscope.

Latham and I contributed a few drops of our own blood for science when we attempted to look for RBCs.

Latham also generously donated one of his white hairs.

This is a silk worm larva.
We also looked at ants, mosquitos, and pine needles.

It's not a competetion

This morning Latham taught Lillian how to build an FM Radio - and it worked!!!

I taught Lillian how to make a clock out of tiny cupcakes and markers. And then I showed her how to decorate a cake with a picture of daddy in underpants.

Guitalele

A guitalele is the offspring of a guitar and ukulele.
Lillian got one yesterday.
She got to stay up for an extra hour to play with it.

What to do on a sick day

Lillian is super sick with a cold today.
Wheezy, sneezy, no-voicy ...

She had to miss two birthday parties:
a magic show party and a cooking party.

So, instead, we drank hot chocolate,
watched the Russian "Snow Queen,"
had sushi for lunch, and built a
"Grumpy Grandpa" robot (thanks Nana) ...

and made a heart out of candy --
we call it "Sweetheart."

It is an anatomically correct sectional view.

Late night soma

Last night, in the middle of the night, Latham had the idea that we could hot glue the cubes from our Qwirkle game (which we haven't played in a year) and make the necessary puzzle pieces for a soma cube.

We were done at around 2am and when Lill woke up ...

... she couldn't stop constructing objects with them. Here is her own invention -- the high chair.

We've been playing for hours.

We have a molar!!

BIG NEWS!!! HUGE!!
Lillian's first tooth just erupted!
She has not lost any teeth yet -- it is her bottom left first molar that has appeared.
We were unsure what to do in terms of the tooth fairy. Since there are no fallen teeth to put under the pillow, it is unclear how the tooth fairy will react. Uncle Matt advised paying the tooth fairy. And Lillian dutifully put three quarters (CAD) next to her alarm. We'll see what the morning brings.

making resolutions

Yesterday, we wrote out our resolutions for 2015.
